چکیده

Olof Henricsson and Walter Neuenschwander Communication Technology Laboratory Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH CH-8092 Zurich, Switzerland Abstract In the present paper we address the problem of establishing contours in static monocular scenes. We propose to use features from uni ed edge and keypoint detection to drive an active contour model. We present a framework for image segmentation consisting of, (a) detection of 1D and 2D intensity discontinuities, i.e. general edges and key-points, (b) reformulation of the active contour model to an expanding version, called a \growing snake", (c) automatic initialization, (d) image and internal geometry driven expansion, and (e) controlled termination. The objective is to explore the potential of a fully automatic segmentation scheme. The performance and present limitations of growing snakes are demonstrated on images representative for diverse classes of scenes.

Regulation of Follicular Growth and Development in Sheep

This manuscript reviews the present knowledge related to folliculogenesis in sheep.Folliculogenesis starts with formation of primordial follicles before birth, present as a pool containing a certain number of follicles. By the attainment of puberty, a group of follicles from that pool starts to grow, a process known as primordial follicle activation or recruitment. The number of growing primord...

Equidistant Snakes: Accurate Irregular Shaped Contour Detection

Delineation of irregular shaped objects can be realized using active contours, called snakes[l]. However, the minimization of the potential energy pushes the control points toward the lowest potential energy regions, so most of the control points lie in those regions and a few, or even no control points lie in other parts of the contours, as shown in the Fig.1. We propose an Equidistant Snake t...

B-spline snakes: a flexible tool for parametric contour detection

We present a novel formulation for B-spline snakes that can be used as a tool for fast and intuitive contour outlining. We start with a theoretical argument in favor of splines in the traditional formulation by showing that the optimal, curvature-constrained snake is a cubic spline, irrespective of the form of the external energy field. Unfortunately, such regularized snakes suffer from slow co...

Region Competition: Unifying Snakes, Region Growing, Energy/Bayes/MDL for Multi-band Image Segmentation

We present a novel statistical and variational approach to image segmentation based on a new algorithm named region competition. This algorithm is derived by minimizing a generalized Bayes/MDL criterion using the variational principle. The algorithm is guaranteed to converge to a local minimum and combines aspects of snakes/balloons and region growing. Indeed the classic snakes/balloons and reg...

Investigation of phytochemicals and antioxidant activity of Nepeta ucrainica growing in Iran

Background and objectives: The genus Nepeta is growing in Asia, Europe and the North Africa. The plants of this genus have been used in folk medicine for the antiseptic and astringent properties as topical remedies in cutaneous eruptions and snakes bites. Moreover, they are utilized as anti-tussive, anti-spasmodic, antiasthmatic, febrifuge and diuretic agents. Phytoche...
